CoolTechGirls March Event: Concept of Algorithms

Event Overview:

Venue: The Ohio Union, Third Floor: 1739 N. High Street, Columbus, OH 43210

Date: Saturday, March 12th, 9:30 am - 12:30 pm

Target Audience: Grades 5 - 8

Parking: The Ohio Union Garage (It is in the round meeting room on the third floor. Map of the Union.)

Parking Cost: By the hour.

The March event is in partnership with The Society of Women Engineers at The Ohio State University. The girls will be introduced to the concept of algorithms through a short hands-on project and then an obstacle course for which they will have to design their own algorithm to complete.

The short project would allow them to see the importance of having to be very specific in programming, as computers only do exactly what they are told. One partner would be presented with a drawing or object that the other would have to re-create solely through instructions from their partner.

The girls could also see the obstacle course and design a set of steps, or a flow chart if decisions have to be made. A member of Society of Women Engineers, or one of the CTG girls would have to try to complete the course by ONLY following the steps/flow chart.

This event is free of charge but seating will be limited. Please CLICK HERE to register for the event. This program is for girls in grades 5 through 8.
