CoolTechGirls October Event: Introduction to Computer Programming (ACM-W @ OSU Chapter)

Event Details:

Venue: OSU Campus – (, Baker Systems Engineering – Room 310, 1971 Neil Ave, Building 280, Columbus, OH 43210

Date: Saturday, October 24th, 10:00 am- 12:30 pm

Parking: There is a parking garage right behind the building called Tuttle Garage at 2050 Tuttle Park Pl, Columbus, OH 43210. The rates are: 30 Minutes $1.75, 1 Hour $3.50, 2 Hours $5.75, 3 Hours $8.25, 4 Hours $10.50. There is also a Panera Bread on Lane Avenue with free parking if the parents would like to hang out there instead.

The mission of the OSU chapter of ACM-W is to engage women in activities and projects that aim to improve the working and learning environments for women in computing by mentoring, volunteering, teaching others, encouraging other women to get involved in computer science, and providing historical information about women and their roles and contributions in the field of computer science.

ACM-W @ OSU will be facilitating this event at the OSU campus.

During the session, the girls will be participating in:


Icebreaker activities and introduction to Computer Science


Drag and Drop programming using Scratch tool


Exploring "Party Kit" of Google Made with Code Kit - This consists of fun, animated coding assignments, games that introduce the girls to basic programming skills


The girls will also see some videos on the different career paths of women in computer science that the Google Made with Code kit provides

This event is free of charge but seating will be limited. Due to this limitation, seating will be based on a first come first serve policy! If your daughter is interested in attending this great event, please RSVP no later than October 18th. Please RSVP to with "CTG October Introduction to Computer Programming RSVP" in the subject line. RSVP is required. This program is for girls in grades 4 through 8.
